In the recent times, there have been several breakthroughs in the progress of new technologies concerning artificial intelligence and brain science. While the brain research in many of the world’s most advanced research facilities is progressing at rapid speed, these research undertakings rarely grabbed the headlines. But more than the so-called progress made in silicon chips and digital maneuvers, these research projects hold more value for us, because human brain still is the center of all actions going on around the universe. It is still in control of the world at large.

Brain research is a priority for governments across the world including Europe, Israel, Japan, China, and the United States. Most of these countries have their federal and regional initiatives in brain research. A Bigger data set comprising more numbers and diversity of people’s brains has put some countries like China into an advantage. There have been numerous advances in the brain science in the recent years. Let us have a look at few of them.

Advanced Brain Scanning

Brain Scanning

For nearly last two decades, advanced brain scanning made us well equipped to evaluate and get a clear picture of the brain-centric activities like thought, dreams, suppressed thoughts, imaginative faculties, analytical thought process, emotional outburst and responses and overall ramifications of consciousness in myriad ways. Even modern scanning technologies can decipher the thinking pattern of human beings for historical time dating back more than 20,000 years. Besides detecting typical irregularities latest scanning technologies are enabling us to gain insights into workings of the brain.

Machine Learning

Machine Learning

How computing became possible? Obviously, computing has been a result of equipping machines to think in a binary way. Well, after decades now computers and computing interfaces are now more adaptive to learn beyond the so-called binary logic. We entered the era when machines are learning from us. Machine learning has largely become possible by combining the power of brain and computer. Now robotic limbs have been devised by the scientists at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab that can be controlled by the thought or neurotic function just in the way our hands and limbs make movement following our thoughts.

Controlling Brain Signals Through Another Brain

Can you imagine a situation where the movement of your limbs or say your speech is being controlled by the brain signals of another individual? Does it sound futuristic? Well, you are likely to have such an impression but it has already become a reality thanks to the researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle. A group of scientists here became able to transmit brain signals of one person to another person’s brain. It has been possible to control the movements of the hands sitting in a different location by transmitting signals from the brain of an individual engaged in a video game.

Let us conclude now with some great speculations and predictions of the brain research that are going to take awesome proportions in the time to come. Ray Kurzweil whose predictions have been taken seriously by the scientific communities told that by the year 2030, nano-robots are going to be implanted in the brain. This may sound futuristic and crazy enough for our ears, but the speed brain research is making progress, such revolutionary abilities do not look to be a far-fetched reality anymore.
