Product Engineering is much more than just a service; it is a complex process of designing & developing a device/system which requires hardware, a chip and firmware, assembled together to be used with one or more type of other Products. This process must be carefully measured to be implemented to make the product more stable as well as durable. It begins with the Proof of Concept, Feasibility Research, Digital Designing of Hardware & Software Architecture, PCB Designing and Layout, Algorithm Designing, Firmware Development and finally manufacturing. Customized engineering needs to be done for a device to make it appealing for its intended market to achieve business goals and ensure constant growth of the business.

How is a Device developed? Any embedded device must have an algorithm to work upon and a platform to run that algorithm. Let’s consider Smartphone as an example, the process of manufacturing a Smartphone includes designing of the Product i.e. the Electronics and the PCB Design and Hardware Layout, Screen Design, Control all the components. A software platform or an operating system is then required to run applications after a memory is created to store all the data. To control all these operations, the development of a platform that is the operating system is very important. This defines how the final product will communicate with Device or Web applications. The platform to use this applications are developed using various programming languages such as Linux, PHP, UNIX, Python, Oracle etc.

Product Development Life Cycle

The software development depends on the API standards. With the technologies like IoT and Cloud creating a huge buzz in most business sectors, all devices are developed to be compatible with these platforms to ensure a richer & most convenient User experience. In 2015, the focus of IT industry is on connectivity between any numbers of devices and hence they are designed specifically to Support Cloud & Big Data technologies. Products like Wearable Devices, Low Power Bluetooth devices like Beacons and Sensors, Thermostats, etc. are few examples of IoT Product Engineering.

Most important aspects of product engineering solutions are Cost Effectiveness, Performance, Quality, Reliability, Stability, Connectivity Features and Time to Market. It is important to ensure that the Pre-Sales process as well as the Project Management process is stringently followed to launch a comprehensive product in the market.
